Back to School: A Look Inside the New Bayard Rustin Elementary School

In less than three weeks, more than 600 students will fill the halls at Bayard Rustin Elementary School in Rockville.  Montgomery County Public Schools’ new school was named after a civil rights organizer and an openly gay African American.

“I wish could go back in time and be a third grader,” said the school’s PTA president, Tia Doughty. “There are so many new things that are being offered here that I think any student would be excited for.”

According to MCPS officials, the school was designed to give students choices tailored to their learning style.
