Back to School: Bethesda-Chevy Chase HS Expands Due to Overcrowding

There are 34 more classrooms at Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School following a renovation project to ease overcrowding. Enrollment for the 2017-2018 school year was 500 over capacity.

“With 2,100 students last year we had eight portable classroom units outside,” said Donna Jones, the school’s principal. “With this expansion, the building will have a capacity of 2,400.”

The new expansion includes a basement and three additional floors, features collaborative spaces for group projects and a new dance studio. There are also six new tennis courts situated on top of the parking deck making B-CC High School the only school within Montgomery County Public Schools with tennis courts above ground.

These changes are meant to reflect how students are learning in this digital age.
