MCPS Students Can Access Free Program from Metropolitan Opera

The Metropolitan Opera, based in New York City, offers students access to free streaming of opera shows through the Met’s HD Live in Schools program.

Normally, students go to the movie theatre to watch shows after learning about the story and doing activities to familiarize themselves with characters. However, because theaters are closed due to COVID-19, the Met offers the online streams, and all educational materials are posted online.

Ryan Sullivan, choral music director at Northwood High School in Silver Spring, runs the program for Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS). He said the program is open to students of all ages, from elementary to high school.

Sullivan spoke about the importance of the program during this pandemic with MyMCMedia.
