Five Things to Know for July 5 in Montgomery County

Today is Friday, July 5, and here are five things to know in Montgomery County.

1. Maryland State Holiday: Governor Hogan announced in late June that today would be a holiday for state employees. An unexpected day off.

2. Police Investigation: A video posted to Twitter Thursday prompts an investigation. The video shows a Montgomery County police officer making an arrest and slamming an already prostrate young man onto a concrete sidewalk

3. Five Recreation Centers Increase Hours: Five County recreation centers will stay open to 11 p.m. on Friday and Saturday starting today. The centers include East County, Good Hope, Long Branch, Plum Gar and White Oak.

4. Summer concert:  Free outdoor summer concerts continue tonight at Rockville’s Town Square with the band Mambo Combo.

5. Hairspray:  Rockville Musical Theatre’s production of the musical Hairspray at the F. Scott Fitzgerald Theatre runs through July 21. Tonight’s performance is scheduled for 8 p.m.
