Hogan Gives State Employees Day Off On July 5

Gov. Larry Hogan announced that state employees are getting an extra day off on July 5.

Since Independence Day falls on a Thursday this year, Hogan has extended the holiday to include Friday.

“We have some tremendous family-friendly events taking place all around the state, not only on the Fourth of July, but throughout the entire weekend,” Hogan said in a statement. “I hope the long holiday will encourage Marylanders to spend more time together and celebrate our nation’s independence with all we have to offer here in our great state.”

Maryland state universities do, however, have the option of staying open on July 5 to prevent exams and classes from disruption. If a Maryland state university remains open July 5, it can schedule an additional holiday at a later date.
