Local Gas Stations Face Shortages After Blizzard (PHOTO)
As federal and local governments across the region reopened for business, commuters hit the streets to head out to work after spending days stuck at home. If reported gas shortages on Friday weren’t enough, some local stations were out of gas for Wednesday’s rush hour as well.
George Ransford is the manager of the Exxon on 10201 Westlake Drive in Bethesda. He says his station ran out of gas on Thursday and Friday before the start of the blizzard.
“Saturday and Sunday we didn’t have gas but we had a delivery on Monday. Right now we only have supreme, not regular or plus,” Ransford said.
Ransford added that a fuel truck was scheduled to deliver gas to his station on Wednesday evening.
Chris Wangkang is the owner of Executive Shell on 12151 Rockville Pike and College Plaza Exxon on 15211 North Frederick Road. He says both stations experienced delays with deliveries and are just now topping off fuel storage tanks. Wangkang also added that other gas stations in the area were still out of gas.
“On Friday there was a huge rush, normally we do 5,500 gallons but it was double the load. We ran out of gas around 2 p.m. then another load came in but we ran out a second time later in a day. We finally got a load on Tuesday night. We were out of gas for three days so we were only able to sell wiper blades and hydraulic fluids for bulldozers and snow plows,” Wangkang said.
