Two COVID-19 Cases Confirmed at Montgomery College

A Montgomery College female student and employee tested positive for COVID-19, although the college would not say which campus or campuses were involved.

However, Marcus Rosano, college spokesperson, said that all students who may have come in contact with those two people were notified Monday.

“Notices have been sent to those who could have possibly been exposed. Thus, if a person was possibly exposed, they would have been contacted Monday evening,” Rosano said in an email to mymcmedia.

“We ask them to visit the CDC’s website which offers additional insights into how the virus is spread, the symptoms, and how to protect yourself. And if they have symptoms, to follow the protocol which is to immediately call their healthcare provider,” he noted, referring to the Centers for Disease Control in Atlanta.

According to a new release from the college, the student was last seen on campus March 11 and did not experience any symptoms until March 16.

The college stopped holding classes on March 12, Rosano said.

The employee was last seen on campus March 13 and did have symptoms that day.

“Both individuals are following medical advice and self-quarantining,” according to the news release.
“While this news may be distressing, please know that the College leadership team and the Coronavirus Advisory Team are meeting daily to evaluate this changing situation,” it said in the news release.

The college is following the guidelines of the Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services.

Currently the college is only teaching remotely and communicating with students through email and the college website. As of Tuesday, students no longer are permitted inside any of the campus buildings.

It will reevaluate its plans on April 15.
