Strathmore Announces Five Big Events Despite Current Closures

“Monuments: Creative Forces” exhibit.

The Music Center at Strathmore announced five events for 2020 and 2021, despite current COVID-19 closures. 

The powerhouse arts center in North Bethesda plans on moving forward with the events. The first event is planned for Oct. 2-25, called “Monuments: Creative Forces.” Strathmore plans to use outside space to project the digital faces of six artists onto trees throughout its grounds. 

The other events are as follows:

Feb. 19, 2021: “Making the Music” will feature three artists who will share songs and stories exhibiting the intersection of Broadway and rock ’n’ roll. 

March 15, 2021: “Songs of Our Native Daughters” is a performance based on the struggles and hopes of African American women. 

April 1-2, 2021: “Parable of The Sower” will feature 30 songs about a woman who lives in an America where climate change drives the country to violence. The songs will be based on 200 years of Black music. 

June 2021– TBD: “Step Afrika! – Drumfolk” will focus on the African American experience in the U.S.
