Retired Division Chief Recognized for 45 Years of Fire Service

Recently retired William “Alan” Hinde served Montgomery County for 45 years. On Friday, Hinde was recognized for his commitment to fire service at the 45th Public Safety Awards Luncheon, where he won the Chief Leslie B. Thomas Community Service Award.

According to Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce, as a child, Hinde “sustained serious burns to his legs” and spent a long period of time “recovering at Suburban Hospital.” There, he relearned “how to walk.”

This injury inspired Hinde’s life of service.

Once Hinde turned 17, he grew into various leadership positions at the Rockville Volunteer Fire Department. Most recently, Hinde worked as division chief of volunteer services for Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service.

Hinde was considered a mentor to many people entering fire service — he even inspired his own son Christopher to “pursue fire service.”
