Five Things to Know for March 21 in Montgomery County

2. Planning Board Meets: The Planning Board agenda items include a briefing from the State Highway Administration on the Montgomery Hills Project Planning Study along the Georgia Avenue corridor, among many other items. Watch the meeting live, here.

3. Schools Briefing: Public schools Superintendent Jack Smith meets with the media today to give an update on the budget, the Kirwan Commission, the Early Childhood Education Initiative and answer questions.

4. School Safety and Security: Montgomery County Public School’s Safety and Security Conversation series continues tonight from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Northwood High School in Silver Spring. Ed Clarke, chief safety officer for MCPS, and Dr. Christina Conolly, director of MCPS psychological services will discuss school safety issues, student mental health concerns, and lockdown with options protocols.

5. Council Committee Work:  Four of the six committees meet today. First, at 9:30 a.m. the Health & Human Services and the Planning, Housing & Economic Development Committees will be briefed homelessness. Then at 2 p.m., the Transportation and Environment Committee will receive a briefing on construction of the Purple Line.  At the same time, the Education and Culture Committee will consider capital improvement budget amendments submitted by Montgomery College.
