Five Things to Know for Aug. 23 in Montgomery County

We’ve finally made it to Friday and cooler temperatures! Check out the weather forecast. Here are five things to know in Montgomery County for Friday, Aug. 23.

1. Small Business Marketing Plan Workshop: The Maryland Women’s Business Center (MWBC) will hold a session to guide startups through the process to develop a marketing strategy. Workshop held at the MWBC in Rockville from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Learn more and register, here.

2. All About Microbreweries:  The second installment of Food Matters, entitled “Montgomery County Microbreweries – Policy, Profit, and Pints”, feature a panel discussion with industry experts. Each will share how they entered the beverage industry, why they do this work, what policies impact their work, local trends in the breweries movements, and stories about their personal experiences. Panelists will also answer questions from the audience. The event is free, but registration is strongly encouraged. Brookside Gardens Visitor Center Auditorium from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

3. Family Resource and Movie Night:  Rockville families can receive information from community resource partners and enjoy a movie in the park with free popcorn. Bring friends, family, dinner, chairs and blankets to the Lincoln Park Community Center, located at 357 Frederick Avenue in Rockville from 7 to 9:30 p.m.

4. Back-to-School Fair: Montgomery County Public Schools kick off the new school year with a fair on Saturday, August 24 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Westfield Wheaton Mall.

5. Silver Spring Festivals:  Veterans Plaza is the sight for two festivals this weekend. Saturday, the Jazz festival returns performances on two stages. Then Sunday, the Harvest Moon Festival features the music of the world.
