Original Post (March 11): Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce (MCCC) announced it is postponing its 46th Annual Public Safety Awards luncheon amid coronavirus fears.

The awards were scheduled for Friday to recognize first responders and public safety officials who have gone above and beyond to keep their communities safe.

MCCC President Gigi Godwin shared a message on the chamber’s website saying the situation with COVID-19 has led to the decision of pausing the gathering that brings together about 1,200 people.

“We believe this decision is in the best interest of our public safety community, award winners, and guests,” Godwin said.

Godwin said the awards luncheon will be rescheduled.

Full Letter from MCCC President

Dear MCCC Members and Friends,

With guidance from public safety officials who serve on the Public Safety Awards Committee, we regret to inform you that the 46th Annual Public Safety Awards Luncheon that was planned for this Friday, March 13, 2020 is postponed. This was a very difficult decision; however, the evolving situation with COVID-19 has led us to exercise an abundance of caution in hosting a gathering of 1,200 people during this time. We believe this decision is in the best interest of our public safety community, award winners, and guests.

The event will be rescheduled, and we will keep you apprised of the new date.

If you have any questions, please contact Linda Ekizian via email or call (301) 738-0015 ext. 241.

We thank the public safety community, award winners, sponsors, and other guests for your support of this event. We look forward to celebrating our public safety heroes in the near future.

Sincerely,
Gigi Godwin
MCCC President & CEO
