COVID-19 Numbers: Montgomery County Deaths Now 26, County Cases 1,088, State Cases 5,529

The Maryland Department of Health releases the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases and deaths each morning.

The number of Montgomery County COVID-19 cases are now 1,088, according to the statistics released Wednesday morning by the health department.

The cases in Montgomery County increased by 217 or 25% from Tuesday. The number of COVID-19 deaths in the county increased to 26, up from 21 Tuesday. The Maryland Department of Health did not release any additional information on the deaths at this time.

A new drive-thru testing site opened Tuesday in White Oak. Individuals must meet criteria to be tested, have an order for testing from a healthcare provider, and register online for an appointment.

 

As of Wednesday morning, there are 5,529 cases of COVID-19 in Maryland, which is an increase of 1,158 or 26%  from the 4,371 cases reported Tuesday.

Governor Larry Hogan took two additional steps Tuesday to slow the spread of COVID-19.  First, he activated statewide strike teams to help nursing home facilities in need of additional support. Second, Hogan signed an executive order empowering local health departments to shut down any business it deems unsafe.

The total number of deaths in Maryland due to COVID-19 is currently reported at 124, up from 103 Tuesday. There is no additional information about the 21 new victims at this time.

Of the total Maryland cases, 1,210 were hospitalized at some point and 365 have been released from isolation. According to the Maryland Department of Health, there have been 32,933 negative coronavirus tests in the state.

Montgomery County’s Coronavirus website now includes information on covid-19 cases and deaths in the County. The County’s Department of Health and Human Services will update the page twice weekly on Tuesdays and Fridays.
