SHA Announces Overnight Road Closures on I-270 in Clarksburg

beltway-traffic slider 450X250Commuters on I-270 in northern Montgomery County may want to factor in some extra time this week.

That’s because the MD 121 Bridge over I-270 is being widened by one lane in each direction as part of the road work for the Clarksburg Premium Outlets.

During construction this week, crews will need to close lanes on I-270, with intermittent complete closures to set steel.

The closures are scheduled beginning tonight through Thursday morning (weather permitting):

• Double lane closures beginning at 9 p.m. in both directions of I-270 at MD 121.
• 15 minute total closures 12 a.m. (midnight) to 5 a.m. in both directions of I-270.

The nighttime weekday closures are scheduled to continue this week, weather permitting. All lanes should re-open no later than 5 a.m. each morning.

The Maryland Department of Transportation’s State Highway Administration (SHA) recommends that overnight travelers use MD 355 (North Frederick Road) to MD 109 (Old Hundred Road) as an alternate route. Drivers should avoid using I-270 or plan for extra travel time.

The outlets are scheduled to open at the of October.
