Nationals Will Visit Trump, White House on Monday

The Washington Nationals will be visiting the White House on Monday in celebration of winning the World Series.

The Nationals beat the Houston Astros in 7 games, winning the first World Series title for Washington DC since 1924, when the Washington Senators won the Fall Classic. 

The White House visit will come two days after the Nationals’ victory parade on Saturday. 

President Donald Trump was met with some disdain from fans attending Game 5 at Nationals Park. Many booed loudly and chanted of “lock him up.”

It is not clear whether the entire team will attend or if some will opt to not be there as has happened with Trump and other presidents in the past. During Trump’s presidency, some teams such as the NBA’s Golden State Warriors have opted to not attend for personal or political reasons. When the Washington Capitals won the Stanley Cup in 2018, the team took part in a private ceremony at the White House but had no official ceremony or media availability. Caps’ goalie Braden Holtby chose not to attend saying wanted “to stay true to my values.”
