Five Things to Know Today, Sept. 15, in Montgomery County
It’s Tuesday, Sept. 15, and here are five things to know in Montgomery County.
1. Council in Session: Montgomery County Council meets virtually today at 8:40 a.m. Here’s a look at today’s agenda which includes a briefing on the Purple Line at 9:05 a.m. and an update on the pandemic at 11 a.m. Watch the morning and afternoon sessions live on YouTube.
2. Rico Leblond Sentencing: Rico Leblond is scheduled to be in Circuit Court Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. before Judge Debra Dwyer. Leblond pled guilty to first-degree murder in August for the January 2017 murder of Zella Ziona that took place near Lake Forest Mall in Gaithersburg.
3. MCPS Committee: The Montgomery County Public Schools committee responsible for policies meets Monday at 3 p.m. Their agenda includes a discussion of the student transfers and sexual harassment policies, and will discuss the calendar for the next school year (2021-2022). 4. COVID-19 Testing: Montgomery County is holding two free testing clinics today. Testing is available from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the White Oak Recreation Center in Silver Spring and also in Germantown at the parking garage behind the Regal Cinemas. Appointments are encouraged but walk-ups are accepted. Testing is free and a doctor’s order is not required. More information is available here.
5. Too Cute for Words: The National Zoo’s 3-week-old giant panda cub passed its first neonatal exam with flying colors Sunday. A recent video shows the cub yawning:
