Five Things to Know in Montgomery County for March 1

The National Weather Service expects strong winds late Thursday night through Friday evening that may cause power outages. Here are five things you need to know today, Thursday, March 1 happening in (or near) Montgomery County:

1. Bicycle Master Plan:  The planning board meets today and will hold their third work session on the Bicycle Master Plan. A copy of their full agenda may be found here.

2. County Executive Candidates Forum: The Latino Democratic Club of Montgomery will hold a forum for county executive candidates in Silver Spring at the Civic Building, starting at 7:15 p.m. A Latino resource fair will take place prior to the forum from 6:30 to 7:15 p.m. See flyer for the Resource Fair in Spanish and English.

3. Silver Spring’s Civil Rights History Lecture: Local historian David Rotenstein will discuss the role of the Talbot Avenue Bridge and the broader history of civil rights in Silver Spring at the Takoma Park Community Center from 7:30 to 9 p.m.

4. Opioid Town Hall with Amie Hoeber:  Town Hall Panel to discuss the Opioid Epidemic and talk about solutions to defeat it at The Ranch Drug and Alcohol Addiction Treatment Center in Frederick from 7 – 9:30 p.m.

5. Consumer Protection Forum:  The Office of Consumer Protection will co-host a Consumer Protection Forum, titled “Protecting Your Consumer Rights: What You Need to Know” with Senator Chris Van Hollen and Attorney General Brian Frosh at Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m.

And one more thing, meet with 4th district police officers from 8 to 10 a.m. at the Starbucks at Wheaton Mall, 11160 Veirs Mill Road.
