Five Things to Know for Sept. 5 in Montgomery County

It’s Thursday, September 5 and here are five things to know in Montgomery County.

1. Planning Board Meets: The Planning Board is back to work today after their August recess. They meet at 9:30 a.m. with a full day of agenda items.  Watch the meeting live, here.

2. Senior Forum and Resource Fair: Council Vice President Sidney Katz and Councilmember Andrew Friedson co-host the forum at the Potomac Community Recreation Center from 9:30 a.m. to noon. Attendees may speak with experts about topics including how to reduce the risk of dementia, fall prevention and detecting and avoiding financial abuse.  A wide range of service providers will have information about aging in place, preventing elder abuse, lifelong learning and transportation.

3. Kids Ride Free: New this school year, all youth 18 and under ride free all the time on the county’s Ride On buses. Youth Cruiser SmarTrip Cards are available at all the county libraries.

4. The ABC’s of Self-Publishing:  First-time author Amit Janco presents this workshop on the process of self-publishing at Twinbrook Library this evening at 7 p.m.  Free, no registration, all are welcome.

5. Marcia Ball: The 2018 Texas State Musician of the Year performs tonight at AMP by Strathmore. Check out her unique sound that follows in the tradition of Jerry Lee Lewis and Fats Domino below:
