Here are five things to know Thursday, Oct. 18, in Montgomery County:
1. Small Business Network: Honest Tea co-founder and Bethesda resident Seth Goldman is the featured guest at today’s small business networking session facilitated by Kelly Leonard. Doors open at 8 a.m.
2. Schools Briefing: Public schools Superintendent Jack Smith meets with the media today to highlight initiatives and program to address equity in the schools and answer questions.
3. Planning Meeting: The Planning Board meets today and will discuss funding of $1.1 million dollars for capital improvements to the Josiah Henson Historic Park, among numerous other items. The meeting agenda may be found, here.
4. Green Gala: Bethesda Green, a local green business incubator, celebrates its tenth anniversary tonight at Bethesda Blues & Jazz Supper Club.
5. Cooking with Gleaned Produce: Tonight’s Community Food Rescue Week event is a cooking demonstration. Chef Rita Garruba of Bethesda’s Barrel and Crow restaurant will lead a crew of volunteers to cook the fresh produce gleaned earlier in the day from Butler’s Orchard. The prepared food will be donated to food assistance providers without cooking facilities.

Community Bike Ride: The Washington Area Bicyclist Association hosts an evening ride that starts at Fallsgrove Shopping Center in Rockville.
Poetry Reading: Takoma Park’s Third Thursday Poetry Reading series features local poets Clare Banks, Bernard Welt, and Terence Winch who will read their original work. A reception follows the readings.
