Happy Friday! Here are five things to know today, Nov. 9, in Montgomery County:

1. Show Your Gratitude: Stop by the Marilyn J. Praisner library in Burtonsville to write a letter to or draw a picture for deployed troops, veterans, new recruits, and first responders. The library will have all the supplies and will send all letters and drawings to Operation Gratitude to be distributed.

2. Veterans Day Holiday: The county and municipal governments are closed on Monday, Nov. 12. Find what’s open and what’s not, here.

3. Local Author Talk: Dr Nicole Cutts will talk about her books, The Adventures of Isabelle I and II at the Gaithersburg Library at 4 p.m.
