Five Things to Know for June 7 in Montgomery County

It’s Friday, June 7 and here are five things to know in Montgomery County.

1. Commencements: Four schools hold graduation ceremonies today. Montgomery Blair High School and Richard Montgomery will hold their ceremony at the Xfinity Center in College Park, Blair at 9 a.m. and Richard Montgomery at 1:30 p.m. Kennedy High School will graduate the Class of 2019 at 10 a.m. at DAR Constitution Hall. Watkins Mill High School students will receive their diplomas at DAR Constitution Hall at 2:30 p.m.

2. Gun Violence Awareness Day: The city of Gaithersburg joins communities around the country to remember and be active against gun violence.

3. Summer outdoor concerts:  Free outdoor summer concerts return to Rockville’s Town Square on select Friday evenings during the summer. The concerts offer a diverse range of music including rock, salsa, blues, folk, and reggae. Tonight the band Dublin 5 performs.

5. Christie Dashiell jazz concert:  Contemporary jazz vocalist Dashiell performs at the Good Hope Community Recreation Center  Saturday, June 8 at 6 p.m. The concert is part of the Bloom series by Strathmore. Admission is free, reservations are appreciated, but not required.
