Five Things to Know for Jan. 18 in Montgomery County

Today is Friday, Jan. 18. Schools are opening on time today. Here are five things to know in Montgomery County.

1. Furlough Workers Job Fair: Montgomery County Public Schools is holding an employment open house for furloughed federal workers and contractors today from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. at 850 Hungerford Drive in Rockville.

3. UnNaugural Concert:  The third annual UnNaugural Concert produced by Maryland Senator Cheryl Kagan takes place at the Cultural Arts Center in Silver Spring at 7:30 p.m. Proceeds from the concert go to organizations working on affordable housing, domestic violence, pollution, poverty and suicide prevention.

4. Sandy Spring Museum History Hour: Historian Richard J. Bell examines the musical phenomenon of Hamilton to reveal what it tells us about the marriage of history and show business. He points out what the musical historically got right and wrong. The evening includes a special performance by Jade Jones, singing “Satisfied” and “Burn” from the musical.

5. Meet Artist Kathy Lindert:  County resident Kathy Lindert created the “Together We Rise” oil painting inspired by attending the January 2017 Women’s March on Washington. The third annual Women’s March takes place Saturday, Jan. 19.
