Five Things to Know for Feb. 4 in Montgomery County

Today is Monday, Feb. 4. The National Weather Service says we should expect fog in the morning, but temperatures in the 50s. Who needs Florida? Here’s the forecast.

1. Municipal Monday: Rockville Mayor and Council starts its drop-in at 5:30 p.m. Its regular meeting starts at 6:30 p.m. Here’s the agenda. Gaithersburg’s Mayor and Council starts its meeting at 7:30 p.m. at City Hall. 2. Budget Forum: County Executive Marc Elrich plans an operating budget forum for fiscal 2020 starting at 7 p.m. at Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School, 4301 East West Highway, Bethesda. Elrich will announce his recommendation for the FY20 Operating Budget on March 15. The County Council will approve the budget sometime near the end of May. Check here for more information.

3. Transit Equity Day: A broad coalition of environmental and social justice organizations have united to advocate for a robust transportation system. The coalition wants all passenger and school buses electrified and the BRT schedule accelerated. 4. Outdoor Smoking: The Montgomery County Council’s Health and Human Services Committee meets at 9:30 a.m. in the Seventh Floor Hearing room to hear Councilmember Sidney Katz’s legislation to ban outdoor smoking. 5. Collective Voices: The Word Works and The Writer’s Center present Collective Voices: poets Sistah Joy, Ladi Di, and Brenardo. Café Muse opens at 7 pm with refreshments and classical guitar by Michael Davis; readings begin at 7:30. More details are on Facebook.
