Five Things to Know for Dec. 4 in Montgomery County

It’s Tuesday, Dec. 4, and here are five things to know in Montgomery County.

1. Newly Elected Council In Session: Today is the first day the new County Council will convene in session. The meeting will start at 9:30 a.m. Read the agenda for the meeting here.

2. Chanukah Fire Truck Events: It’s the third day of Chanukah and volunteer fire departments in the county are celebrating! Rockville Volunteer Fire Department has its annual Menorah Run between 6 p.m. and 8:45 p.m. See the full schedule of stops here. Sandy Spring Volunteer Fire Department has a Chanukah Fire Truck Parade starting at 5:45 p.m. It is scheduled to stop in locations throughout Olney. Check out the full schedule here.

3. Latkes & Lights: The B’nai Israel Congregation is hosting a Hanukkah extravaganza event filled with fun for the whole family. Families can convene together in Rockville to light the communal menorah, play games, and sing along with the University of Maryland’s co-ed Jewish acapella group, Rak Shalom. Not only will there be delicious latkes, but activities are scheduled for young children. The event begins at 5:45 p.m. and registration on their website is required.

4. Purple Line Community Advisory Team Meeting: The Department of Transportation’s Community Advisory Team wants to keep residents in the loop about the purple line project. Today from 7 to 8:30 p.m. the meeting convenes at Rosemary Hills Elementary School in Lyttonsville. Share your thoughts and concerns on the project by attending the meeting. 5. Forest Glen/Montgomery Hills Sector Plan Community Meeting: Residents and business owners interested in the future of Forest Glen and Montgomery Hills can attend a public meeting at the Planning Department’s headquarters in Silver Spring to share their thoughts. The meeting goes from 5:30 to 8 p.m. and the Montgomery Planning staff will present its recommendations for their plans. More information can be found here.
