5 Things to Know Today, Sept. 27, In Montgomery County

Today is Monday, Sept. 27, and here are five things to know in Montgomery County.

1. Council Media Briefing: Council President Tom Hucker and Vice President Gabe Albornoz will hold a media briefing today at 11:30 a.m. to discuss Wednesday’s Town Hall, and the Police-Community Policing-Data bill. A public health official will provide a public health update. The briefing will be streamed on the Council’s Facebook here.

2. Nonprofit Security Grants:  Montgomery County is accepting applications through Oct. 22 for grants known as Nonprofit Security Grants for nonprofits that are or are at risk of becoming targets of hate crimes. A virtual information session on eligibility and how to apply for the program takes place tonight at 7 p.m. Register for the information session here.

3. Municipal Monday: The Mayor and Council of Gaithersburg meet virtually at 7:30 p.m. for work session; the agenda may be found here. The Mayor and Council of Rockville hold a virtual meeting at 7 p.m. The meeting agenda may be found here.

4. Redistricting in Montgomery County:  The local League of Women Voters will host an online information session about the current efforts to redraw the council voting districts. Register online for tonight’s session from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

5. (ICYMI) Great Gatsby in Rockville:  Author F. Scott Fitzgerald is buried in Rockville at St. Mary’s Cemetery. Friday was the 125th anniversary of his death. MyMCM visited Fitzgerald’s final resting place and spoke with two Fitzgerald experts.
