5 Things to Know Today, Oct. 12, In Montgomery County

Today is Tuesday, Oct. 12, and here are five things to know in Montgomery County.

1. Council in Session: Montgomery County Council meets virtually at 9 a.m. The council will issue a proclamation recognizing Bullying Prevention Awareness Month. Tune in at 9:40 a.m. for a briefing on COVID-19. Here is a full look at the meeting’s agenda.

2. Bulb Exchange Program:  Bring old incandescent and used CFL light bulbs to the Connie Morella Library in Bethesda today from 1 to 3 p.m. and receive three new energy-efficient LED light bulbs in exchange.

3. Poolesville Meets BOE: There’s a virtual Poolesville Cluster meeting with the Montgomery County Board of Education starting at 7 p.m. Here’s the agenda. The meeting will be streamed live on the MCPSTV YouTube channel here.

4. Domestic Violence Webinar:  This webinar will provide an introduction to domestic violence and identify strategies to help a friend or family member who may be a victim of domestic violence. The virtual webinar takes place this evening at 6 p.m. Register here.

5. Finding Quality Child Care:  The county’s early childhood services staff is holding two virtual sessions this week on finding quality and affordable child care. Tonight’s session starts at 7 p.m. and will be in English. Wednesday’s session is also at 7 p.m. and will be in Spanish.

And One More Thing:  Enjoy a free family movie tonight. Brookside Gardens offers a free outdoor screening of Disney Pixar’s animated fantasy film Coco. The seating starts at 6:30 p.m. and the film starts at 7 p.m. The movie will be outdoors on the lawn behind the Brookside Gardens Visitor Center.
