Paul Ryan

Who Knew?

The big news this past weekend was not the Dream Team redux in London winning the Gold medal in Men’s Basketball for the US – it was the announcement of Congressman Paul Ryan (R-WI) as Mitt Romney’s chosen running mate on the Republican Presidential candidate ticket.

Many across the country are just now beginning to understand who Congressman Paul Ryan is and what he has accomplished. The campaign trail is being blazed now in Florida as a lead up to the Republican National Convention in Tampa, FL on August 27-30th. We will see how the Florida public reacts to his new campaign push.

But who really knows Paul Ryan? Locally, we do not have to look any further than our own Eighth District of Maryland Congressman Chris Van Hollen (D-MD).

Van Hollen is the top ranking Democrat on the House Budget Committee which Ryan chairs. Here in a photo I took earlier this year at the House when Ben Bernanke, Chairman of the Federal Reserve was testifying before the committee you see both Ryan and Van Hollen sitting front and center.

I am sure that they both have a respectable, warm, professional relationship. We will find out in the coming weeks just how much of a professional relationship that is as the national Democratic Party leans on Van Hollen to counter Ryan’s budgetary prowess.

Who knew, before this weekend, that the 2012 presidential political landscape would be painted with colors supplied right here in MoCo.
