White Flint Residents Get Update on Neighborhood Transportation Projects (VIDEOS)
White Flint residents received updates on transportation proposals for their North Bethesda neighborhood Tuesday night.
About 25 people attended the Friends of White Flint meeting, at AMP by Strathmore, where the focus was on the White Flint 2 Sector Plan. The plan covers 460 acres in a bowtie-shaped region east and west of the White Flint Metro Station.
By mid-summer, the Montgomery County Planning Board expects to send the sector plan to the County Council, which will then schedule public hearings, worksession and further actions by the end of the year, senior planner Nkosi Yearwood said.
An April 20 worksession is planned and one of the items to be discussed is a new MARC station for the White Flint area.
After the meeting, Yearwood discussed the hurdles of constructing a new station in the White Flint area.
Among the transportation projects for the White Flint area is the “western workaround”—the relocation of Old Georgetown Road and Executive Boulevard, and the creation of Main/Market Street. The changes mean there will be more, smaller, square blocks in the area, which will be more conducive to development, said Bruce Johnston, chief of the division of transportation engineering for Montgomery County Department of Transportation.
After the meeting, he talked about what the changes mean for White Flint.
Amy Ginsburg, executive director of the Friends of White Flint, described how the community has changed from strip shopping malls to homes and businesses. She described what she thought of the meeting.
