Watch Live: Hogan to Provide COVID-19 Update at 2 P.M.
UPDATE: Gov. Larry Hogan announced that all hospital and nursing home employees in the state of Maryland will be required to get the COVID-19 vaccine or undergo frequent testing. Workers at such facilities will be required to get their first shot by Sept. 1.
Gov. Larry Hogan announced that he will provide a COVID-19 update on Wednesday at 2 p.m. The briefing will be streamed live on Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube.
The update comes as key COVID-19 metrics continue to rise in the state. Since the beginning of August, new cases have increased by 13,486 and deaths by 77. Hospitalizations are currently at 630 statewide and the COVID-19 positivity rate is 4.92%. The rate will likely top 5% this week.
In his most recent COVID-19 media briefing, Hogan announced that state employees who work in congregate settings with vulnerable populations would be required to get a vaccine or have weekly testing beginning Sept. 1. This includes state employees who work in facilities with juvenile services, public safety and correctional services, veterans affairs, and state-run healthcare facilities. He also strongly urged private nursing home operators to institute similar vaccination requirements for their employees.
