UPDATE: US Women’s World Cup Roster Includes 2 Current, 3 Former Washington Spirit Players

The final 23 player U.S. Women’s World Cup roster is set and five current and former Washington Spirit players made the cut. Current players Mallory Pugh, 21, and Rose Lavelle, 23, were officially announced as part of the roster. As were veterans Ashlyn Harris, 33, Ali Krieger, 34, and Megan Rapinoe, 33, who played for the Spirit in previous years.

Diane Roberts talked to Pugh and Lavelle for MyMCMedia in April:

The Women’s World Cup will take place in various locations in France in June. The tournament, held every four years, kicks off on June 7. The first match for the U.S. team is against Thailand on June 11.

The U.S. team won the last World Cup in 2015 defeating Japan in the final.

The article has been updated to identify Ashlyn Harris as the third former Spirit player as part of the roster.
