Two People Seriously Injured in Wheaton Car Collision

The Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD) is investigating a serious car collision that hospitalized two people Sunday in Wheaton.

Police and fire and rescue personnel responded to a crash report around 1:32 p.m. at Veirs Mill Road at Newport Mill Road. MCPD said a Toyota Sienna was making a left turn onto Newport Mill Road from Veirs Mill Road when it collided with a Nissan Altima that was traveling the opposite way on Veirs Mill.

Jayantha Malwadamgedara, 45, of Wheaton was driving the Sienna and was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries, police said. The driver of the Altima is Alexander Andres Fuentes Trejo, 27, of Silver Spring who was hospitalized with serious injuries. Both drivers were the only occupants of their cars.

MCPD said its investigation is ongoing and anyone with relevant information should call the Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) at 240-773-6620.
