Two MCPS Students Charged with Rape of Minors

Two Montgomery County high school students are in jail after being charged with raping young girls. Both incidents are unrelated and occurred off school property.

Arrested were Jonathan Coreas-Salamanca, 20, a resident of Silver Spring and a student at Montgomery Blair High School in Silver Spring; and Ivan Reyes Lopez, 19, who lives in Silver Spring and attends Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School.

Following the arrest of Coreas-Salamanca, the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Removal Operations (ERO) issued a detainer for him. According to an ICE spokeswoman, he is “an unlawfully present Salvadoran national.”

Coreas-Salamanca was charged with sexual abuse to a minor; rape, second degree; and sex offense, third degree. He currently is being held in the Montgomery County Detention Center.

His preliminary hearing is set for March 13 at 10 a.m. at District Court.

According to the District Court of Maryland charging documents, Coreas-Salamanca is the half-brother of the young girl.

The charging documents further noted that Montgomery County Police responded to a report of sexual abuse of a minor and were told by an 11-year-old girl’s father that Coreas-Salamanca had performed sexual acts with his daughter.

The victim’s father told police that he discovered this when he recognized that the cellphone his daughter was using was not the one he had given her. He then read through some of the communications between his daughter and Coreas-Salamanca, according to the charging documents.

Some of those messages included descriptions of previous sexual incidents and photographs, according to the documents.

In the other case, Lopez is charged with rape, second degree, in connection with incidents between June 1, 2019 and September 1, 2019. He also is being held in the Montgomery County Detention Center.

His preliminary hearing is set for March 20 at 10 a.m. in District Court.

According to the charging documents, Lopez had sex with an 11-year. Lopez was seeing the girl’s older sister at the time.

In the documents, the pair had sex in his apartment, and Lopez claimed it was consensual.
