Student Charged With Attempted Murder in Blair High School Stabbing
A 16-year-old Montgomery Blair High School student is being charged as an adult after allegedly stabbing another student in a school parking lot Monday, according to Montgomery County Police (MCPD).
Maycol Coyoy of Silver Spring is charged with attempted second-degree murder, first-degree assault and reckless endangerment, police said. The victim, also a juvenile, was taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Police were called at 10:01 a.m. Monday for a reported student who was stabbed in the school’s parking lot, MCPD said. Two students were involved in a conflict, Blair Principal Renay Johnson said in a message to families on Monday. One student assaulted the other with a knife and the victim sustained “cutting wounds,” she said.
Johnson said Coyoy left school grounds, however his parents returned him to the school and he was taken into police custody. Police said he was arrested without incident.
The school temporarily went under lockdown Monday before moving into a shelter-in-place, Johnson said.
