Six MCPS Schools Top ‘Best High Schools’ in State List
Six Montgomery County High Schools are ranked among the top 10 public schools in the state according to a report released on Tuesday.
U.S. News and World Report’s ranked Whitman High School as the best school in Maryland and 63rd best school in the country.
Churchill High School follows Whitman and is ranked as second best in the state and No. 94 in the country.
Poolesville High School was ranked third best in the state and No. 197 in the country. Wootton High School ranked fourth in the state and No. 115 in the country. Walter Johnson High School ranked fifth in the state and No. 147 in the county. Richard Montgomery High School ranked sixth and No. 260 in the country.
Three other Montgomery County Public Schools ranked within the top 20 in the state as well. Damascus High School ranked No. 15 in the state and No. 410 nationally, while Rockville High School ranked No. 16 in the state and No. 413 in the country. Magruder High School ranked No. 20 in the state and No. 510 nationally.
U.S. News and Word Report ranked a total of 6,218 public schools around the country for its 2016 Best High Schools Rankings. The rankings are based on a number of performance indicators including; graduation rates and performance on college level assessments such as Advanced Placement or International Baccalaureate tests.
