Progressive Maryland Distributing Anti-Blair Leaflets

Volunteers with Progressive Maryland have been distributing leaflets at Metro stations in Montgomery County pushing the case that Democratic candidate David Blair is the wrong person for Montgomery County executive.

On Wednesday, the group focused on Blair’s proposal to expand health services in schools through telemedicine.

We interviewed Coleson Breen, a Progressive Maryland volunteer who was distributing leaflets at the Shady Grove Metro Station.

In a news release that accompanied the leafletting, the organization claimed Blair plans to “replace” school nurses with privatized call centers.

“They clearly don’t have a full understanding of the Telemedicine program. Nurses would not be replaced. The program is intended to enhance healthcare at each school and allow for better outcomes for each child and their family,” said Blair’s chief strategist, Kyle Lierman.

Progressive Maryland has endorsed Councilmember Marc Elrich in the county executive’s race. His name isn’t mentioned on the fliers.

Volunteers with the organization also distributed fliers at the Glenmont and Takoma statons.

The leaflets carry the authority line of the “Progressive Maryland Liberation Alliance PAC,” a so-called super PAC that is connected to the local organization but got much of its original funding from Caitlin Heising, of Atherton, California.

“It’s bizarre that they are wasting time and money attacking a progressive Democrat who has been endorsed by The Washington Post as the best choice for Montgomery County. The attacks are absurd and not based on facts. We will continue to keep our focus on the issues facing the county and the best solutions for all residents. David Blair will be a progressive county executive who will work to bring people together and solve problems to move our county forward,” Lierman said.

Millionaire businessman and darling of Repulican developers should not need a slick campaign consultant to respond to a press inquiry. What’s the story with his telemedicine company? And why did he say telemedicine would be used to replaced school nurses if he became County Executive? He has more in common with Trump and Bezos than with families who are struggling with health care for their kids.

There seems to be a huge misunderstanding of how Telemedicine works, especially in a school system. Telemedicine in schools requires the use of a nurse to operate the system. The school nurse would use the telemedicine cart to connect students with the doctors and parents and help assist the remote doctor. The reason why it is so great is because doctors can make a diagnosis, send prescriptions to the pharmacy, and speak to the parents all remotely. It is a program that has been successfully piloted in Howard County and reduced instances of parents needing to take off extra days of work to get their sick child to a doctor.

Convenient how none of the other allegations against Blair, for example, why copays for Copaxone increased by over 1000% while Cataylst was at its most profitable & Blair’s own salary doubled – are not investigated – only claims that Blair’s spokespeople can backpedal on or have a prepackaged answer to.
The entire media establishment is hell-bent on forcing Blair on us. It’s an insult to voters and it’s trying to squash the public financing experiment, slapping us in the face with a self-financed multi-millionaire businessman.
