Poolesville’s Girls Win 2A MPSSAA State Championship in Perfect Fashion
Towson, Maryland SECU Arena Saturday March 10, 2018The season of perfection ended perfectly Saturday with a 63-23 Poolesville victory over Queen Anne’s High School. The well deserved 2A MPSSAA State Championship capped a 27 win season without a loss, a remarkable season to say the least. Much like yesterday the young women of Poolesville got off to a fast start and by the end of the first quarter were up 20 to 5 over Queen Anne’s. The Falcon pressure was relentless during much of the game forcing 18 turnovers which created easy scoring opportunities. Poolesville played with such determination and intensity it was impossible for Queen Anne’s to mount any sort of comeback.
The coach of Queen Anne’s after the game gave a great deal of praise for the Poolesville Team. He said, “they are a very talented athletic team,” and they are “the real deal.”
This was the first trip to the final four for both Poolesville and Queen Anne’s. Each team represented their schools with a great deal of pride. Poolesville players and coach Fred Swick mentioned how they have been supported by the entire student body and community in their playoff run. I asked the players jokingly “when was the parade scheduled?” Coach Swick turned to me me and said, “it is being arranged right now and is scheduled for 5:15 p.m. today down Main Street in Poolesville.” I was amazed, but then realized I shouldn’t be surprised about how this could be possible but remembered how close these young women are as a team, one that reflects a close knit community that wants to share in their amazing season. These players and coaches can forever claim they were the first to complete a perfect season at Poolesville which ended perfectly with a State Championship.
