The Montgomery County Police Department will host a discussion with the LGBTQ Community on Sept. 7 to answer questions about the agency’s entry level and annual training for police officers.

Since 2016, the police department has hosted a variety of liaison meetings with various groups in the community including the African American Liaison Committee and Latino Liaison Committee to foster positive relationships.

“MCP understands the importance to reach out to the community that may not have a level of trust with law enforcement and to bridge that gap which will hopefully provide a better understanding among both sides,” Lieutenant Nicholas Augustine, said. The LGBTQ community can understand law enforcement policies and MCP can further their relationship with the LGBTQ community so they are not hesitant to report crimes.”

The meeting, which will be held at the Montgomery County Public Safety Training Academy, 8751 Snouffer School Road in Montgomery Village, is open to the public and free of charge.

Since seating is limited, officers are encouraging residents to register.

In addition to the community discussion, Augustine said this is a opportunity for residents to tour the new training facility.

“The goal is for the community to see how realistic MCP makes the training for their officers and that preparing our officers to protect the community is a priority,” he said.
