UPDATED Montgomery County police officers are investigating a carjacking that occurred on Tuesday afternoon.
According to police, the armed carjacking took place around 2:40 p.m. on Sept. 27th, in the 7200 block of Honeywell Lane in Bethesda.
Police said the preliminary investigation indicates that a woman was in her 2010 black BMW on Honeywell Lane when she was approached by a male suspect. Police said the suspect displayed a handgun, entered the backseat of the vehicle, and told the victim to drive. According to police, the victim, who was not injured in the carjacking, fled from her vehicle and flagged down another motorist for help. Police said the suspect fled from the scene in the victim’s car.
A police chase was initiated when officers attempted to stop the BMW and the suspect refused to stop. As the suspect approached Tuckerman Lane, police said the BMW left the roadway for reasons still under investigation, traveled into a tree line and stopped.
After the collision, police said the suspect fled from the vehicle on foot into a nearby Potomac neighborhood on Frost Valley Way. According to a police account, the suspect climbed onto the deck of a residence and attempted to gain entry into the home. Police said the homeowner who saw the suspect trying to enter her house got out of the house and called police.
During the police department’s response on Tuesday afternoon, Falls Road was closed between Liberty Lane and Glen Road.
A spokesperson for Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) said dismissal was delayed at Wayside and Cold Spring elementary schools because of the police investigation. Also, MCPS spokesperson Gboyinde Onijala said students at Herbert Hoover Middle School for after school activities were released to their parents.
At one point, the Potomac Community Recreation Center was on lockdown because of police activity in the area.
Police have identified the suspect as 46-year-old Perry Marcel Bryant. Police said Bryant was taken in to custody around 8:30 p.m. when Emergency Response Team (ERT) officers located him inside the residence.
Bryant was transported to the Central Processing Unit (CPU) where he was charged with one count of armed carjacking, one count of attempted kidnapping, and one count of home invasion.
Update: Barricade situation on Frost Valley Way involving carjacking suspect has concluded. The suspect was taken in to custody at 8:33p.m.
