UPDATED: Police Continue to Investigate Fatal Shooting of 21-Year-Old
UPDATED Oct. 16, 5:11 p.m. Homicide detectives with the Montgomery County Police Department continue to investigate the fatal shooting that occurred at a Montgomery Village shopping center on October 15.
Police are now identifying the victim as a transgender female who identified herself as Zella Ziona.
“This is a horrific crime and a tragedy for those who knew Zella,” said Montgomery County Police Chief Tom Manger. “As with all homicides in Montgomery County, we have detectives working around the clock to thoroughly and completely investigate this murder.”
Detectives are urging anyone who may have information regarding the suspect(s) in this homicide to contact the Major Crimes Division at 240.773.5070. For those who wish to remain anonymous, Crime Solvers of Montgomery County is offering a reward of up to $10,000 for any information that leads to the arrest of the suspect(s). UPDATED 1 p.m. Montgomery County police officers are investigating the murder of a 21-year-old that occurred Thursday evening in Montgomery Village. Police have identified the victim as DeAndre Smith.
Police said they received the report of a shooting at 5:49 p.m. in the area behind 18312 Contour Road. According to police, Smith was located by officers in an alley that separates the Montgomery Village Plaza and the Montgomery Village Crossing shopping centers.
Police said Smith died at the hospital.
