Montgomery Nonprofit Adds to Reward for Germantown Shooting

A Montgomery County nonprofit has offered $2,000 for information that leads to the arrest of the person responsible for an April slaying that took place in Germantown.

The Victims’ Rights Foundation, based in Gaithersburg, is offering the reward. Crime Solvers of Montgomery County has already offered a $10,000 reward in the case of the death of Tray Dawkins, an 18-year-old.

Someone shot Dawkins and three others about 9:15 p.m. April 16 in the 18700 block of Curry Powder Lane. The shooter, or shooters, left the scene before Germantown police district officers arrived. Police said investigators do not believe the shooting was a random event.

When officers arrived, they found a man and a teenager suffering from gunshot wounds. They were taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Two other men left the scene trying to get to a hospital. One man had non-life-threatening injuries of a non-specified nature. The other, identified as Dawkins, died from his injuries, police said.

Detectives urge anyone with information regarding the incident to call the Major Crimes Division at 240-773-5070. For those who wish to remain anonymous, Crime Solvers is offering a reward of up to $10,000 for any information that leads to an arrest. Tipsters can call Crime Solvers of Montgomery County toll-free at 1-866-411-TIPS (8477).
