Montgomery County Updates Public Health Benchmarks

Thursday afternoon, Montgomery County released an update to the public health metrics they are using to “make decisions regarding the three phases of reopening” the county. The county will move to Phase 2 of the reopening process Friday, June 19 at 5 p.m.

The county is tracking three categories of information including hospital capacity, COVID-19 surveillance, and COVID-19 testing capabilities. The county’s COVID-19 Dashboard is updated daily with the current numbers for each of the metrics.

The data posted Thursday afternoon were:

  • Number of new confirmed positive cases each day: 68 (three-day average); 12 declining days our of the last 14.
  • Number of COVID-19 new deaths each day: four (three-day average); 13 declining days of the last 14.
  • COVID-19 related hospitalizations: 185 (three-day average); 14 declining days.
  • Number of COVID-19 related emergency room patients: 3 (three-day average); 14 declining days.
  • COVID-19 related intensive-care unit hospitalizations: 73 (three-day average); 14 declining days.
  • Acute care bed utilization rate: 68% (three-day average); the county benchmark of 70% or less has been met 12 of the last 14 days.
  • Intensive Care Unit bed utilization rate: 61% (three-day average); the county benchmark of 80% or less has been met 14 out of the last 14 days.
  • Percentage of ventilators in use: 43% (three-day average); the county benchmark of 70% or less has been met 14 out of the last 14 days.
  • Test positivity rate: 7% (three-day average); 14 declining days.

The county also set goals for testing capacity, contact tracing, and prioritizing equity. More details on each of these goals are available on the county’s website, here.
