Five Things to Know Today, Sept. 10, in Montgomery County

It’s Thursday, Sept. 10, and here are five things to know in Montgomery County:

1. COVID-19 Testing: The county is providing free COVID-19 testing today at the White Oak Community Rec Center from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and the Silver Spring Civic Building from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

2. Board of Education Meets Virtually: The Montgomery County Board of Education is holding a virtual meeting today. Open Session begins at 11:00 a.m. Topics include an update on ‘Opening Schools in Recovery of Education’. Click here for the full agenda.

3. Reopening Grant Funding Opportunity: The County Council passed a special appropriation creating the Reopen Montgomery Program to provide grants of up to $5,000 per applicant. A total of $14 million has been appropriated for this program to help county businesses reopen. Click here for more information and to apply.

4. Mask Campaign: The #MaskUpMoCo campaign is designed to educate county residents and visitors about the importance of wearing a mask in public and outdoors when unable to maintain physical distance. This is a partnership between the county government and the business community.

5. MCM Classes: Are you ready to produce great content with MCM? Then sign up for one of our upcoming virtual classes. On Sept. 10, we have an orientation where you can learn about what MCM’s Education Department has to offer. On Thursday, you can begin our 2-session long “Step into Virtual Podcasting” class.
