1. Construction work will close portions of the trails around the Croydon Creek Nature Center at 852 Avery Road in Rockville beginning today.

2. A street party commemorating the 10th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina takes place from noon – 3 p.m. today at Jesup Blair Park.

3. Maryland Governor Larry Hogan has ordered the state flag to half staff in honor of former Governor Marvin Mandel who passed away on Sunday. Mandel will lie in state tomorrow at the State House in Annapolis.

4. Online registration for the popular Kentlands/Lakelands 5K closes tomorrow. The Gaithersburg event that attracts thousands to downtown Kentlands is set for Saturday, Sept. 5th.

5. The Rock Spring Master Plan Open House takes place tonight at Walter Johnson High School in Bethesda.
