Five Things to Know Today, Dec. 7, in Montgomery County

Today is Monday, Dec. 7, and here are five things to know in Montgomery County:

1. Council Committee Meetings: Two county council committees meet virtually today. At 10 a.m. the Planning, Housing, and Economic (PHED) Committee receives a briefing on the project to rename county street and parks from the Planning Department. Then at 2:30 p.m., the Transportation and Environment (T&E) Committee receives a briefing from the Department of Environmental Protection. Find the agenda here. Watch the meeting on YouTube here.

2. Municipal Monday: Gaithersburg’s Mayor and Council meet virtually at 7:30 p.m. and will elect a Countil Vice President. Here’s the agenda and the work packet. The Rockville Mayor and Council meet virtually at 6 p.m. The agenda may be found here.  Mayor Newton and Councilmember Pierzchala will be available at 5:15 p.m. to meet with residents. Sign up online by 2 p.m. for the Drop-In session.

3. Gaithersburg’s CPSC Park: Today is the last day to suggest a name for the new park that is scheduled to be built at the former Consumer Product Safety Commission site. Submit your suggestion online here.

4. COVID-19 Testing: Free walk-in and drive-through COVID-19 testing are available throughout the county at seven testing sites today. The schedule of clinics may be found here.

5. Staying Active at Home:  There is still time to register for “Exercising at Home, Staying Motivated”, a fitness program for adults age 55 and up that meets virtually on Monday’s from 11 a.m. to noon.  Join the discussion on ways to stay motivated to exercise at home during the pandemic.
