Five Things to Know for Oct. 15 in Montgomery County

It’s Monday, Oct. 15, and here are five things Montgomery County residents need to know:

1. Who’s a Good Doggy? Adoption fees are waived through Oct. 25 at the Montgomery County Animal Services and Adoption Center at 7315 Muncaster Mill Road. Open at noon, except Wednesdays.

2. SMOB meeting: Student Member of the Board Ananya Tadikonda hosts an advisory council town meeting at White Oak Middle School starting at 6 p.m.

3. Meet the Media: Montgomery County Council President Hans Riemer is scheduled to meet with reporters at 1:30 p.m. Up for discussion are pedestrian safety issues and the next steps for county cell tower regulation. He’ll also discuss the Bicycle Master Plan, which the Council will review Tuesday.

4. Government Monday: The Montgomery County Council committees have a number of issues scheduled to discuss. You can find which committees are meeting and electronic versions of staff reports here. This Word file has a brief rundown of the meetings. Meanwhile, the Gaithersburg Mayor and Council meets at 7:30 p.m. at City Hall. Here’s the agenda.

5. ICYMI: Maryland Department of Transportation officials appeared in Montgomery County last week, promising that the widening projects on I-270 and the Capital Beltway would not mean residents would lose their homes. See Mitti Hicks’ report here:
