Five Things to Know for Oct. 10 in Montgomery County

Here are five things to know today, Oct. 10, in Montgomery County:

1. Walk to School Day: Montgomery County Councilmember Sidney Katz, Gaithersburg Mayor Jud Ashman, and Dr. Jack Smith, superintendent, Montgomery County Public Schools will celebrate Walk to School Day at Gaithersburg Elementary School.

2. Coffee with a Cop: Officers from Montgomery County Police Department’s First District will host coffee with a cop at the Quince Orchard Starbucks, located at 519 Quince Orchard Road in Gaithersburg, from 4:30 to 6 p.m. today.

3. Books & Bulbs: In honor of National Energy Action Month, Montgomery County Public Libraries is hosting various Books and Bulbs events at libraries across the County. Books and Bulbs is a free event where County residents bring their old light bulbs and swap them for up to 3 LEDs and a reusable bag.

4. 10-Minute Walk to a Park: Rockville Mayor Bridget Donnell Newton is expected to join with mayors from all over the U.S. to celebrate the importance of parks in the community.

5. Glenmont Forest Neighbors Civic Association: Pedestrian safety and road improvements
are on the Glenmont Forest Neighbors Civic Association’s agenda.  The meeting will be held at Highland Elementary School, located at 3100 Medway Street in Silver Spring from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
