Five Things to Know for Nov. 8 in Montgomery County

Here are five things to know today, Thursday, Nov. 8, in Montgomery County:

1. Pedestrian Safety:  The fall kickoff for the Council of Government’s Street Smart campaign takes place at Veteran’s Plaza in Silver Spring. The event highlights the region’s efforts to increase pedestrian safety and commence the fall education and enforcement campaign.

2. Council Committees Meet: The Montgomery County Council committees have a number of issues scheduled to discuss. You can find which committees are meeting and electronic versions of staff reports here.

3. MCPS Facilities and Boundaries Hearing:  The Board of Education will hold a public hearing on facilities and boundaries from 6 to 9:30 p.m at the Carver Educational Services Center in Rockville.

4. Media Forward: As part of the Maryland STEM Festival, the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers (SMPTE) will host an event at Montgomery College Rockville Campus to provide students with the opportunity to explore careers in media technologies and associated fields. 5. Flu Vaccine Clinics:  The Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services will offer free flu vaccinations for school-aged children (ages 3 to 18 years) on November 13 at three MCPS high schools. Schedule appointments on the county’s website or call 311.

And one more thing: Put on Your Dancing Shoes for the community dance known as Second Thursday Dance held the second Thursday of each month in the Great Hall of the Silver Spring Civic Building from 7 to 10 p.m.
