Five Things to Know for Nov. 16 in Montgomery County

Here are five things to know today, Nov. 16, in Montgomery County:

1. Cold Weather: Montgomery County has activated the Extreme Cold Plan for a Hypothermia Alert until 10 a.m. today. Keep warm and be aware of any weather-related cancellations.

2. Garden of Lights: Visit Brookside Gardens in Wheaton, for an opportunity to step into a winter wonderland, filled with over one million dazzling colorful lights. If you visit the Conservatory, you’ll also be able to enjoy a G-Scale model train set. The Visitor Center will have a musical performance and hot cocoa. The garden will be open from 5:30 – 10 p.m.

3. 2018 Heroes Celebration: The National Alliance on Mental Illness is hosting a celebration in Bethesda from 6 – 9:30 p.m., honoring heroes who have shed light on issues concerning mental illness. It’s the organizations largest fundraiser of the year, filled with 300 community leaders and concerned citizens who understand the importance of understanding mental health. 4. Sweeney Todd The Demon Barber of Fleet Street: Go see the outrageous tale of the Demon Barber of Fleet Street at 8:15 p.m. at the Kensington Town Center. Tickets can be purchased here.

5. Sugarloaf Crafts Festival in Gaithersburg: Get an early start on holiday shopping by visiting the Montgomery County Fairgrounds from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. For tickets and more information, click here.
