Five Things to Know for May 8 in Montgomery County

It’s Wednesday, May 8. Today is known as Victory in Europe Day, or V-E Day. V-E Day marks 74 years since the Holocaust ended. Here are five things to know in Montgomery County.

1. National Bike to School DayIt’s National Bike to School Day. Children should wear a helmet, follow traffic signs, and enjoy a beautiful morning of bike riding.

2. Happy, Healthy Homes Green InitiativeMontgomery County Council Vice President Sidney Katz, County Executive Marc Elrich, and Montgomery Housing Partnerships President Robert Goldman are teaming up for a “Happy, Healthy Homes Green Initiative” tonight. The aim of the initiative is “to help low-income families reduce their energy bills.” The event is from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. in the lobby of  Beall’s Grant apartments located at 254 North Washington Street in Rockville. 3. Stop Bleeding TrainingSince May is “Stop the Bleed Month,” Montgomery County Office of Emergency Management & Homeland Security is offering free training sessions in May to help people know what to do during a bleeding emergency. Tonight’s training session is at the Olney Library from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Here’s more information.

4. Business Connect Launch: Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich is launching Business Connect at the Upcounty Regional Service Center in Germantown today from 12 to 1 p.m. The program is intended to support businesses with training and counseling sessions for small business owners around the county.

5. Multimedia Producing ClassTonight MCM’s 7-week long multimedia producing class starts at 6:30 p.m. The classes are typically held from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Enroll in the class by registering here.
