Five Things to Know for March 7 in Montgomery County
Today is Thursday, March 7. Here are five things to know in Montgomery County.
1. Early Care and Education Initiative: Montgomery County leaders will introduce a four-year action plan to significantly increase the number of child care spots for infants and children up to 5 years old in the highest need areas of the County.
2. Planning Board Meets: The Planning Board agenda items include an update on the Wheaton headquarters and the acquisition of a property for the Westbard Urban Recreational Park, among many other items. Watch the meeting live, here.
3. BOE Public Hearing: The Board of Education asked the Superintendent in January to review the existing process for setting school boundaries. As part of that process, the BOE will hold a hearing at 6 p.m. to obtain community input regarding the review.
4. New African Film Festival Opening Night: AFI Silver Theatre presents the 15th annual New African Film Festival now through March 17. The brochure may be found here.
5. Recovery from Addiction: The city of Rockville is sponsoring an opioid addiction awareness campaign during the month of March. Former Boston Celtics player Chris Herren talks about his recovery from addiction in a free event open to all at the F. Scott Fitzgerald Theatre from 6:30 to 8:30.
And one more thing: Staff from the Department of Environmental Protection will be at Waredaca Brewing in Laytonsville today from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Residents can swap out old incandescent or CFL light bulbs for up to three free LED light bulbs.
